I was attracted to this industry because of a simple equation. Efforts = Returns. No politics, no gaming, no curry favours, no bureaucratic BS. I only need to focus on putting in the right efforts to get the right returns.

Having spent ten rewarding years as a Wealth Solutions Consultant, I was ready to grow further by moving into management. When I had my first-born, I was concerned about the fluctuations in my returns. To overcome that, I figured the only way is to diversify the efforts. Thus, starting a team would achieve consistent returns.

As a Financial Planner, my mission is to improve my clients’ finances in the long-term future. The skills required to do the job well are competency, problem identification/understanding/resolution skills, people skills (communication and understanding of people), having a vision, and thinking out of the box. As a Financial Services Manager, the ball game is different. My focus has now shifted to recruitment, coaching and training, business operations support, marketing and leads generation, career counselling, facilitating support group meetings, and welfare of my team members.

Each career path has its highs and lows. I have enjoyed both immensely.

20 years is a long time for many people. But if you had found a career that could balance Passion and Money, you will be enjoying the journey. I am one of those lucky ones.

When I am not working, I will be with my family. Savouring my wife’s cooking and cuddling my two boys are the biggest joys in my life. So during Circuit Breaker (due to Covid-19) in 2020, it was no sweat for me. But I do miss the golf course during that period! I am immensely passionate about golf. Ya, I know, some of you are thinking it is a boring game for the old man.

But let me ask you, would you be thrilled to hold a rifle down a 300-yard shooting range? If yes, then why it is “boring” to hit a golf ball 300 yards down the fairway? It needs a lot more athleticism to do that compared to shooting a rifle. But of course, golf is just a game. What keeps the passion burning is the company I have playing this game. These buddies fill up my social life.
